Dear friends,
It continues to be a mild Autumn with temperatures just beginning to fall. We have had an extra hour today as the clocks went back which means the evenings will start getting darker earlier, just in time for Halloween! I think it’s time for me to think about hibernation too…
Before I completely withdraw and begin to conserve my energies for the Spring, the garden still needs putting to bed and onions and garlic to be planted. Winter potatoes are showing positive signs of a Christmas harvest with plenty of parsnips and beetroot still in the ground.
There is still colour in the garden from the cosmos, marigolds, hydrangea, verbena and the chrysanthemums. The cosmos and marigolds are beginning to look tired especially after the mini storm we had last night.
At UVO, I finally got round to making Elderberry Cordial from berries harvested late summer. Recipe and photos to follow. Other than that, I’ve enjoyed cooking/baking from my existing repertoire and filling up the freezer with heart warming soups.
Thank you to my go-to supplier for gluten-free flour, Eurostar Foods, who added two of UVO’s recipes to their website:

Girish and Alexandra visited from across the pond, so very lovely to see them! We had a jam-packed ten days of fun starting with a visit to Stonehenge where we were able to get close to the stones.
A guided walk at Westonbirt Arboretum in the glorious sunshine was much enjoyed though we were a little early to see the trees in their full Autumnal glory.
Their visit culminated with a trip to Bath and a Roger Taylor concert,
followed the next day with a celebratory lunch and tea at home for Girish’s birthday with his friend, Andy. Lunch consisted of Mutter Paneer served with Wholegrain Rice and gluten-free Mooli Paranthas.
A post lunch walk in the Wiltshire countryside
was followed by Pakoras, Pinnis and Badam Barfi for tea. All the food was home-made with recipes from Usha’s Very Own with the exception of the cake.
Finally, a quote from Emily Bronte:
Please continue to share my Instagram, Facebook and site with others.
Until next time…
