Dear friends,
Thank you for subscribing to Usha’s Very Own! Today we celebrate one month since launching. 🎊
It’s been a brilliant January, adding more recipes, photos and videos, as well as revamping the website.
Some of you shared photographs of your first attempts with me. I was touched — and impressed! I received pictures of you making pakoras, chole, bhaturas, and gajar halwa. The friend who prepared the halwa — a carrot, milk and cardamom-based dessert — made it so perfectly that it was virtually identical to the photo on my site! In fact, I’d have thought it was my photo if her dish hadn’t been garnished with pistachios instead of almonds!
So, please, keep the photos coming! I’d also love to hear your suggestions and requests. I’m keen on trying my hand at any and all North Indian food.
A quick tip ahead of Valentine’s Day: For those of you unable to treat your Valentine to a meal out this year, consider making my luscious Ras Malai dessert. It’s a rich, creamy combination of cardamom, saffron and milk that ends up tasting like heaven. Just be organised and make it Feb. 13; the dish needs to be refrigerated for at least six hours before serving.
Here’s a bit of a laugh, courtesy of a song by Dan Bern, to round up:
So often these days eating Indian food passes for spirituality.
I don’t meditate,
I don’t pray
But I eat two samosas every day!
On that note, my recipe for tangy vegetarian samosas — along with a how-to video — is coming soon!
Stay safe and well, my friends. I’ll be back in touch soon! In the meantime, I’d be so grateful if you could share my Instagram, Facebook and site with others.
Love,
